8 Champions Crowned

The Regional Champions Tournament took place over the weekend as Regional League winners from the U-14, U-15, U-16 and U-17 age groups competed against one another at the University of Guelph Gryphons Field Complex.

Eight new Regional Champions were declared along with eight finalists also named in this soccer for life competition.

The showcase style scoring system was in effect, which rewards the teams that had the best overall weekend and not just one lucky match.

With many of the decisions on who would be crowned Champions being made on the final game day, many teams were keeping a close eye on the sort of result they would need. And whether it be the number of goals to win by, or a shutout or how their opponents were finishing, it made for an exciting final day.

And for the first time in the four years this competition has been held,  there was a tie where they had to use the head to head rule to determine the winner or placing.

As well as many fantastic athletes on hand, many up and coming Match Officials from SWRSA, EMSA, PHSA and HDSA were mentored by some of Ontario Soccer's finest assessors and leaders within the LTOD program, a great stepping stone for the U15 Nationals being held in the area in 2020.

Ontario Soccer's Competitions Management Committee will continue to offer this format and ensure that strong competitive players have a chance to compete on a province-wide level in the Soccer For Life stream of play.

A special congratulations to the teams from SWRSA:
